Titomic Limited (ASX:TTT) shares jumped +6.2% right before lunchtime on Wednesday as it incorporates Microsoft Hololens tech into its industrial services tech.

Microsoft’s Hololens is a lot like the Apple Vision Pro which waltzed onto the market earlier this year, generated a lot of hype, and then quietly dropped off the radar as far as pop culture was concerned.

Microsoft’s competitor Hololens product – a wearable headset through which a transparent lens can project real-time information and data, including apps – will now be taken on board by Titomic for use in its cold spray applications.

Using a transparent display to project real-time information on screen while performing industrial tasks is an example of ‘augmented reality’ (AR).

That’s different to ‘virtual reality,’ in that a VR headset immerses its user in a self-contained world (think video games,) while ‘augmented reality’ intends to add digital features to human eyesight – or augmentations, if you will.

Think a pair of glasses that show you the time and temperature in the right hand corner of your field of vision – something like which Titomic intends to add to its cold spray capabilities.

“Utilising Microsoft HoloLens technology (a head-worn transparent lens), Titomic and its technology partner have developed the AR Suite that can display real-time system data, including temperature, system settings, and optimal nozzle range for specific repairs,” the company wrote on Wednesday.

“Titomic expects that this AR suite, along with future market-oriented product advancements, will provide further competitive additions.”

For the uninitiated, cold spray is a manufacturing process through which a high velocity nozzle sprays durable particles onto existing parts for repairs, or to build new components outright similar to 3D printing.

Titomic uses the tech as a way to conduct welding operations without high temperatures – useful in a range of industries including most obviously oil and gas, but also defence, aerospace, and other applications.

Titomic ultimately expects the headsets to boost the quality of its work delivered to myriad clients, which the company hopes will boost its profile – and its works pipeline.
