Metals explorer Toro Energy (TOE) has started electromagnetic surveying at the Dusty nickel-gold prospect in WA’s eastern goldfields.

The recently-discovered prospect is part of Toro’s Yandal gold project, around 50 kilometres east of the Mt Keith nickel deposit.

The prospect was discovered via single reverse circulation hole, drilled in 2013.

The company recently found 36 metres of downhole disseminated nickel sulphides averaging 0.23 per cent nickel in a komatiite rock unit.

A ground based moving loop electromagnetic (MLEM) survey is being conducted to test for nickel mineralisation across the identified komatiite unit. Komaatiite is the main source of nickel sulphides in the Yilgarn region.

The principal aim of the survey is to identify conductive anomalies at Dusty and across the suspected extent of the komatiite.

MLEM surveying will not give any indication of gold prospectivity, but this is being targeted instead by a drilling program.

Once the MLEM survey is complete at Dusty, the rig will move to the Yandal One nickel prospect in the south of the project area.

Toro Energy closed 11.1 per cent higher on Tuesday, with shares priced at one cent each.
