Trek Metals (TKM) has appointed experienced geologist and mining executive Derek Marshall as CEO effective September 1, 2021.

This appointment is part of Trek’s plan to expand its executive team to ensure it has an appropriate leadership team to unlock the full potential of its portfolio in the Pilbara region.

Most recently, Mr Marshall held a senior leadership role with Newcrest (NCM), playing a part in the exploration team for the Havieron Gold-Copper Project in Western Australia.

In this role he led the exploration team and provided technical oversight for the exploration programs.

Prior to joining Newcrest, Mr Marshall was Exploration Manager at Buxton Resources (BUX) and worked with the Managing Director to create nickel-copper sulphide exploration opportunities.

This resulted in the discovery of high-grade nickel-copper-cobalt sulphide mineralisation.

Executive Director John Young said Mr Marshall had exactly the skill sets and experience to help take Trek to the next level .

“He has a strong background in successful nickel and base metal exploration in Western Australia and overseas, and he has been involved with the discovery and drill-out of several major deposits,” Mr Young said.

“His experience in senior managerial and technical roles and strong commercial acumen will be invaluable as the scale and complexity of our exploration portfolio and activities increase.”

Shares in Trek were up 4.48 per cent and trading at seven cents at 3:48 pm AEST.
