Twitter has officially started rolling out its paid ‘Twitter Blue’ subscription service, with users in Australia and Canada the first to get offered the new feature.
The service offers special perks to Twitter users for $4.49 a month based on feedback the social media giant said it has received from users over the past several months.
In a blog post this week, Twitter said its free service was not going away, and “never will”. Rather, Twitter Blue is designed to simply enhance the existing Twitter experience.
So, what do you get for your $4.49 a month?
While there is still no edit feature for already-posted tweets, Twitter Blue subscribers have access to a 30-second window in which they can “undo” their tweets.
These users can preview tweets and correct mistakes before they go live.
Twitter Blue also offers a “Reader Mode”, which makes threads of tweets easier to read by hiding replies, like counts and retweet counts.
The subscription service gives users the ability to organise their saved content through bookmark folders where they collate content into specific topics or tweets from specific people.
Further to this, Twitter Blue subscribers can customise the app’s icons for their device’s Home Screen and — somewhat ironically — change Twitter’s colour scheme from the conventional blue to a variety of other themes.
On top of all this, subscribers will be given access to dedicated customer support, meaning if they report any issues with the social media service, they’ll be viewed by a support team quicker than ordinary Twitter users.
