Vicinity Centres (VCX) has appointed its Chief Operating Office, Peter Huddle, as Acting CEO, effective at the conclusion of the company’s annual general meeting AGM on November 16.

Vicinity said since he joined the company in 2019, Mr Huddle had been “instrumental” in bringing its property management, leasing and operations, among other functions, together and delivering a highly cohesive, integrated and customer-focused team.

Chairman Trevor Gerber said Mr Huddle had the skills and experience to continue delivering value for security holders, enabling the company’s board to confidently broaden his exposure.

Before joining Vicinity, Mr Huddle had a “long and distinguished” career at Westfield in a variety of leadership roles in Australia, Brazil and the US.

His management responsibilities included some of the world’s preeminent retail and mixed development projects like the Westfield World Trade Centre in New York and Century City in Los Angeles.

Following the acquisition of Westfield by Unibail Rodamco, Mr Huddle was appointed COO of the extensive operations and development business in the US and was the only ex-Westfield executive on the management board.

The company is currently in the process of appointing executive search firm Egon Zehnder to undertake a global search for the replacement of outgoing CEO Grant Kelley.

Shares in Vicinity Centres were down 1.28 per cent to $1.93 at 10:49 am AEDT.
