Minerals explorer Volt Resources (VRC) is set to undertake an exploration program across its Siguiri Basin projects in the Birimian gold belt in Guinea.

Promising prospects

Volt holds six permits across three projects in the area.

The Kouroussa project is formed by three permits and borders on Predictive Discovery’s (PDI) Kaninko project, which was recently announced to contain significant high-grade gold mineralisation.

The Mandiana project contains two permit areas, namely the Nzima and Monebo prospects.

The Nzima permit contains historical workings which are already operated by small-scale miners.

Volt has engaged Sahara Natural Resources, a mining consultancy and drilling company, to manage the exploration across the Kouroussa and Mandiana projects.

Sahara has been working with PDI at Kaninko, and will be hoping for similar success at Volt’s projects.

A 17-week program of data analysis, mapping and drilling will be undertaken to get a feel for what’s in the ground at the two projects.

Volt will also conduct its own 30-day exploration program at the Konsolon project.

Volt’s geology team has already mobilised to site, where a geochemical soil anomaly has given hopes of further mineralisation.

Historical workings in the area will also be sampled, with the program aiming to collect a total of 1800 samples from across the prospect before planning further mapping and drilling activities.

Next steps

The exploration programs will roll out over the coming months, with hopes of obtaining success like Predictive Discovery did at its nearby Kaninko project.

While Volt is yet to fully understand the geology of its three projects, the Birimian belt has so far proved highly prospective.

Volt Resources Chairman Asimwe Kabunga says he’s looking forward to receiving results from the new exploration.

“Against the backdrop of Sahara’s role in the recent spectacular success of Predictive Discovery’s drilling program, including a gold intersection of 46 metres at 6.58 grams per tonne, combined with evidence of gold mineralisation trending through our adjacent Kouroussa permits, Volt is excited to get the exploration activities underway and looks forward to providing the results of the exploration programs in due course,” Asimwe said.

If successful, Volt’s Birimian projects will be a more than handy addition to its developing Bunyu graphite project in Tanzania.

Volt Resources is up 8.3 per cent today, with shares trading for 1.3 cents each as at 12:25 pm AEST.
