Volt Resources (VRC) has entered into a joint development agreement with US-based battery cell developer 24M Technologies.

Together with Volt’s technology partner in the States, American Energy Technologies (AETC), the companies will develop graphite materials designed to target cost and performance optimisation for 24M’s SemiSolid manufacturing platform.

The partnership will focus on coated spheronised purified graphite (CSPG) and non-spherical graphite products to enhance lithium-ion battery (LIB) performance. The companies will produce the products using graphite sourced from Volt’s Zavalievsky business in Europe and, in the future, from its Bunyu project in Tanzania

Moreover, alongside the development agreement, Volt said it planned to enter into a binding offtake agreement with 24M.

“With this partnership, we enthusiastically look forward to expanding the range of application for our technology beyond the electric vehicle and specialty batteries space, where we are presently active, into a fast-emerging market of industrial graphite and carbon products for powering green utility storage systems,” AETC President and CEO Maya Barsukov said.

The companies will leverage AETC’s inverted LIB anode materials flowsheet design to produce the graphite products.

Shares in Volt Resources were down 10 per cent and trading at 2.71 cents at 10:52 am AEDT.
