Western Australia’s premier wine and tourism region is set to be bolstered by a new five-star resort.

CBRE Hotels and KWM announced last week the Westin Margaret River Resort & Spa would be built along the southern headland in Gnarabup.

The joint development between Saracen Properties and Security Capital Australia is expected to open to the public in 2023 and will be designed by Perth architects Christou Design Group.

The luxury facility will feature uninterrupted views over the Indian Ocean and is located just 10 kilometres from the Margaret River town centre, with the Cape to Cape walk nearby, as well as world-class wineries and restaurants.

CBRE’s Head of Capital Markets for Western Australia, Aaron Desange, said there was a lot of competition for this opportunity and winning the bid is an endorsement of Margaret River’s future as a must-see tourist destination.

“The Westin Margaret River Resort & Spa will be a major drawcard for the South West region and will further boost Margaret River’s presence on the international stage,” he said.

Meanwhile, Partner and Head of Real Estate for King & Wood Mallesons in Western Australia, Carl Black, said it was unusual to be negotiating a hotel deal in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but he’s glad it was successful.

“We believe it will result in a fabulous addition to the hospitality landscape in WA, which was made possible by all parties involved having the capacity to see past the present and into a promising future for high-quality hotel product,” he said.

When completed, the hotel is expected to host 120 guestrooms, three on-site dining venues, meeting spaces, extensive leisure facilities including a resort-style outdoor swimming pool, and a day spa.
