Westar Resources (WSR) has reported high-grade gold hits from first-stage drilling at its Olga Rocks project in Western Australia.

The maiden drilling at Olga Rocks delivered one three-metre-wide gold hit at a grade of 7.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 57 metres.

Other significant hits included 12 metres at 3.5 g/t gold from 88 metres and four metres at 3.5 g/t gold from 112 metres.

The company reported that gold was intercepted in four of the 14 reverse circulation holes drilled, which primarily targeted lithium. Westar confirmed lithium assays are pending.

“With the validation of gold at Olga Rocks, Westar is planning the next phase of drilling, to further test the gold potential,” WSR Executive Director Lindsay Franker said.

“Whilst awaiting the imminent lithium assays, Westar geologists will continue to advance exploration targeting for buried pegmatites across the Olga Rocks tenure.”

Westar shares shot up 18.8 per cent, trading at 5.7 cents at 10:57 am AEST.
