Westar Resources (WSR) has kicked off a maiden drilling program at its Gidgee North project in the Meekatharra-Willuna-Sandstone region of Western Australia.

The 6000-metre aircore (AC) program will test historical supergene copper-zinc targets at the Vela and Geo prospects, as well as multiple gold targets.

Westar Managing Director Karl Jupp said it was an exciting opportunity for the company.

“Westar is delighted to announce the commencement of drilling activities for 2023, with a robust program testing multiple priority gold and also copper-zinc targets over approximately 10 kilometres of strike at the Gidgee North project,” Mr Jupp said.

“Many of the targets will be drill tested for the first time, having never seen a drill bit despite the renowned gold endowment of the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt.”

The project lies within the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt, which has historically produced more than one million ounces of gold and hosts over 2.3 million ounces of gold mineral resources.

Westar holds around 430 square kilometres of tenure within the area.

The company used its extensive datasets to generate and refine multiple gold and copper-zinc targets in the southern part of the tenure, which will be explored in the maiden drill program.
