We all know that what happens in the U.S. tends to ripple down to impact us here in Australia.
Next week’s U.S. presidential elections will be a major catalyst… in this interview, Hebe Chen, a market analyst from IG, talks about what each U.S. election outcome might mean for Australian businesses and investors.
According to IG’s A Trader’s Position report, one third of Australians have investment portfolios that are U.S. based, meaning the outcome of the election (and then markets) will have direct effect on Australian portfolios.
Trump vs Harris – Impacts on business & investment
At the outset, IG is making the following predications:
- A Kamala Harris win would likely be welcomed by the broader market given her party’s generally pro-business and investor-friendly economic policies and the fact she is more trusted to handle the economy. However, certain sectors like fossil fuels and private prisons could face pressure under her administration.
- Meanwhile, a Trump re-election could spark initial unease and volatility across indices given his unpredictable governing style in the past.
