Zenith Minerals (ZNC) has discovered a “major” new lithium target at its Split Rocks project in Western Australia.

The discovery follows auger soil geochemical sampling, which uncovered the new target — dubbed ‘Cielo’ — at the project in WA’s Goldfields region.

Cielo was identified as nine kilometres long by two kilometres wide, returning a peak auger soil value of 117 parts per million (ppm) lithium.

Zenith Executive Chair David Ledger said it was an exciting reward stemming from the company’s hard work over the past 12 months.

“We are delighted to announce a major new lithium target at Split Rocks, which has come about through 12 months of hard work from our soil geochemical teams,” Mr Ledger said.

In 2022, Zenith collected 8551 geochemical samples from the project area, comprising both auger and soil samples. Of these, 6076 samples have been assayed, with the remaining 2475 samples awaiting assay.

Zenith confirmed the new geochemical anomaly exceeded the size of the geochemical anomaly surrounding the Rio lithium pegmatite, which returned drill results including 26 metres at 1.2 per cent lithium oxide.

Cielo presents the company with a major new lithium target to be drill tested.

Exploration efforts at the Split Rocks project are being carried out as part of a joint venture with EV Metals Group, with drilling indicating significant lithium mineralisation to date.

The company said planning was in the works to commence an aircore drill program to test the new target. It said the additional lithium anomalies required further assessment, with reverse circulation (RC) drilling of anomaly A3 to commence in early 2023.

“I look forward to providing further updates on this exciting new drill target – Cielo and the additional new lithium anomalies (1 & 2) generated in 2022,” Mr Ledger said.

Shares in ZNC were up 2.22 per cent and trading at 23 cents at 2:04 pm AEDT.
