Ipswich Grammar School is an independent, non-denominational, day and boarding school for boys. It is situated in the city of Ipswich which is located by the Bremer River in southeast Queensland.

The school is sited on the iconic Grammar School Hill, with its original buildings occupying the crown of the hill. Ipswich is the oldest grammar school in Queensland.

Ipswich Grammar School is steeped in history. The original school building, known as the Great Hall, has been lovingly restored. This fine gothic structure is nestled amid a complex of modern facilities including a precinct of the arts, auditorium, science building, information and technology centre, library and resource centre, industrial technology and design workshops, gymnasium, heated pool, and the multi-purpose sports dome.

The school fosters an encouraging environment that delivers more than exceptional academic results.  Whether it is sport, debating, the arts, literacy, or science, all boys are given the opportunity to excel and network in any field. They are supported by staff from various backgrounds that bring world-class knowledge and experience to the classroom, playing field, and laboratories. 

The curriculum at Ipswich is designed to be fun and engaging for boys. Strong role models and mentors, both male and female,  provide the right level of discipline, encouragement and guidance. The school has a strong systems for behavioural management, pastoral care and parent liaison.

Ipswich Grammar School has adopted ‘Explicit Teaching’ as the foundation for instruction. It focuses on critical core content and breaking this down into smaller foundational blocks and sequences. Each lesson is organised and focused, with a clear goal and learning expectations outlined. Feedback is given weekly to parents as well as formal reports throughout the year.

Extensive music, art and performance-based activities are presented at Ipswich Grammar School to challenge all students. Every boy receives the opportunity to explore his creative self through a diverse range of instrumental and vocal ensembles, visual art exhibitions and drama performances. 

Students are encouraged to become involved in some form of sport or co-curricular activity. More than 40 extra-curricular and co-curricular activities are offered to enhance the curriculum. These fulfilling, character building activities range from rugby, swimming and cricket to debating, chess, and stage band.
