Australian Potash’s (APC) K-Brite Potassium Sulphate (SOP) has been approved for use in producing and processing organic foods in the United States.

K-Brite was given the green light by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) and will appear on the OMRI Products List.

Australian Potash Managing Director and CEO Matt Shackleton said growing populations and a reduced use of arable land for agriculture had seen global fertiliser demands geared towards organic farming.

“In Sri Lanka, for example, there is now a ban on the import of chemical fertilisers, and in China there is an action plan to replace the use of chemical fertilisers with organic fertilisers,” he said.

“APC has offtake positions in both of these jurisdictions and is well positioned to respond to the trend towards organic food production across the world’s major SOP markets.”

The company said following certification, US-based subscribing certifiers, state programs and other entities would receive information on the OMRI status of the K-Brite product suite in APC’s next quarterly subscribers’ update.

Australian Potash said global SOP prices were witnessing strong growth as agriculture markets recovered — driving demand for premium potassic fertilisers.

Shares were sitting steady at 9.9 cents at 3:30 pm AEST.
