Caeneus Minerals (CAD) has wrapped up a maiden drilling program at its Roberts Hill project in the Mallina Basin in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

CAD completed 197 air core holes for 15,999 metres to better understand the nature of the lithologies underlying six prospective areas.

Following the work, the company said it was “highly encouraged” by 84 holes, which ended in an accumulation of sulphides.

Specifically, Zone A appeared to be an anticlinal structure measuring around two square kilometres with a gentle plunge to the south-south-east.

Drilling at Zones B,C and D was focused on two features, with some air core samples for the area still in progress. CAD said interpretation is expected to take additional time due to the nature and complexity of the intersected lithologies.

Notably work at Zone C reportedly returned a 28-metre intersection of abundant coarse-sized mixed sulphides.

Meanwhile, the company said drilling of Zone E confirmed the presence and depth of lithologies with extensive quartz veination noted amid fresh sulphides in granodiorite-type rocks.

Multiple drill holes in the zone ended in pyrite or sulphide accumulations, with logging and other investigations still ongoing.

Lastly, air core drilling at Zone F focused on a west-north-westerly trending structural feature identified from the company’s earlier aeromagnetic survey, with logging ongoing.

At present, Caeneus is completing a program of work in anticipation of deeper drilling where anomalies have been identified.

After incorporating analytical results into models for the above six zones, the company said it expected to carryout diamond drilling to follow up the progress made to date.

The first batch of analytical results from the program is anticipated by the end of October.

Shares are trading in the grey at 1.5 cents at 10:58 and AEDT.
