Iconic reality TV series, Australian Survivor, has revealed it will again be filmed in Australia.

This decision will see a $29 million injection into regional Australia.

Under the $540 million Location Incentive program, designed to promote film and TV productions in Australia, the Morrison Government will give the show $3.9 million in funding.

Previously, Australian Survivor was filmed in Samoa and Fiji but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Location Incentive fund, the sixth season was filmed in Cloncurry, Queensland.

However, this new seventh season will be filmed further east in Charters Towers, near Townsville.

Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, Paul Fletcher said the show is expected to inject money into regional Australia.

“Australia’s amazing landscapes are once again being showcased to the world on Australian Survivor, stimulating tourism in Charters Towers and creating work for around 250 local businesses,” Minister Fletcher said.

“The production will provide significant work for 250 Australian crew in regional Queensland to develop skills to grow and enhance this nation’s screen industry.”

Australian Survivor is produced by Endemol Shine Australia, whose CEO, Peter Newman, is looking forward to another season in Queensland.

“Cloncurry provided the game with a visually stunning location, and we know that Charters Towers will provide an equally rich Australian backdrop for the Survivors to battle it out,” Mr Newman said.

“We look forward to working closely with the local community and crew and supporting the Charters Towers economy throughout a successful production period.”

Currently, so far, the Morrison Government has distributed more than $250 million under the location incentive to attract 26 international productions to Australia.  

The government said this has generated more than $1.9 billion of expenditure in the economy while providing tens of thousands of jobs.
