  • Resource infill/extensional drilling and drilling at historic Lake prospect to follow

Miramar Resources (ASX:M2R) has kicked off RC drilling at its 80%-owned Gidji JV gold project located 15 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in WA.

Technical director Allan Kelly said the current drilling programs will test key bedrock gold targets at the Marylebone and Lake prospects followed by resource infill/extensional drilling at the Highway deposit.

“Having outlined multiple shallow gold resources adjacent to the Goldfields Highway at Gidji, we’re excited to be drilling again,” Mr Kelly said.

“Our focus remains to discover a significant bedrock gold deposit at Gidji and this drilling will be testing a couple of key bedrock gold targets for the first time.

“We believe that recent insights we’ve gained from the combined use of lithogeo-chemical and geophysical data could be the key in unlocking the bedrock gold potential of the Gidji JV gold project.”

Mr Kelly told shareholders that following the RC drilling at Marylebone, the next drilling program will aim to upgrade and/or extend the shallow gold resources, whilst increasing both the confidence in and the size of, those resources. This forms part of the ongoing work we are undertaking to investigate opportunities to monetise the Gidji asset.

“More than ever, we believe we’re uncovering a potential new gold camp at Gidji and we’re happy to be back drilling at Gidji once again,” he added.

The Marylebone prospect comprises several shallow inferred resources totalling more than 20,000 ounces surrounding a 20m topographic high in the base of the Gidji Paleochannel.

Previous RC drilling beneath the supergene gold mineralisation did not intersect bedrock gold mineralisation.

Mr Kelly said that in hindsight it appears that the shallow gold mineralisation may have been sourced from the basement high and been mechanically and/or chemically transported downstream within/below the paleochannel before being deposited above the ultramafic units.

Examination of lithogeochemical data from aircore EOH samples indicates the presence of a potentially differentiated dolerite unit with elevated end of hole (EOH) gold results between two ultramafic units.

The Marylebone dolerite has not yet been tested with RC drilling, so the company initially plans to test the dolerite with multiple RC holes over a strike length of approximately 500m.

The initial program will comprise approximately 1,500m and will take between one and two weeks to complete.

MR2 is steady at 0.2¢ with a Mkt cap of $5.273M.
