Pure Hydrogen (PH2) and joint venture partner Botala Energy have spudded the Serowe 4 well at the Botswana Coalbed Methane Serowe Gas project.

The well is the first of a two-well program which has been designed to expand on previous results Botala delivered from the Serowe 3 well.

Botala Energy advised Pure Hydrogen of the spudding. PH2 is free carried on the first $6 million expenditure in the project.

Serowe 3 was drilled to a total depth of 477 metres and encountered 41 metres of interpreted gassy coal seams more than 200 per cent thicker than pre-drilling estimates, with free gas breaking out of fluids on surface.

PH2 said processing of logs from the well using a new method showed absorbed and free gas indicating permeability in several of the target coal seams.

Drilling of Serowe 4 as well as Serowe 5, which are both five-kilometre step out wells from Serowe 3, are scheduled to be drilled by the end of this year.

Both wells are targeting a similar thickness to Serowe 3, while improving the company’s understanding of the regional geology of the upper and lower Morupule seams within the acreage.

Moving forward, the results from the two wells will be used to determine the location of a commercial pilot program scheduled for the first half of 2022.

Additionally, the company plans to extend flow-testing of the Serowe 3 well to test water flow-rates in the pilot program surface facilities design.

Shares were trading 2.68 per cent lower at 72.5 cents at 2:28 pm AEDT.
