Red Dirt Metals (RDT) is continuing to progress a maiden drilling program at the Mt Ida lithium-copper-gold project in Western Australia.

The planned 25,000-metre reverse circulation (RC) program began on October 21 and is primarily aimed at defining the extents and gaining a better understanding of the morphology of the Southern and Northern pegmatitic intrusives.

Red Dirt Metals has now completed 16 RC holes for 3388 metres. According to the company, the program has kicked off to a good start with 14 out of the 16 holes intersecting pegmatites with estimated widths of up to 25 metres.

The Southern Pegmatite has shown excellent continuity from depth with its current footprint now covering an area of 500 by 200 metres and is open in all directions.

In terms of the Northern pegmatites, located 600 metres to the north of the southern body, two holes have tested the area — one of which intersected 47 metres of pegmatite downhole in two separate bodies.

CEO Matthew Boyes said the program has gotten off to a “fantastic start.”

“Although it’s still early in the development of this new Lithium province, Red Dirt is very excited with the progress to date,” he said.

“Having the first 14 of 16 holes drilled so far intersecting the pegmatite bodies, demonstrates that these structures exhibit significant tonnage potential and continuity from depth through to surface.”

Drilling is ongoing with a second RC rig expected to arrive within the fortnight and will be followed by a diamond rig in December.

Company shares were down 2.5 per cent to trade at 78 cents at 11:49 am AEDT.
