The ACCC will not oppose Pact Group’s acquisition of Synergy Packaging.

A review was conducted as both companies manufacture and supply non-beverage rigid PET plastic containers.

The organisation determined that Pact would still have a number of rival manufacturers following the acquisition.

Customers of Synergy expressed concern over Pact possibly changing strategies, with Synergy servicing larger customers, which may hinder customers requiring lower volumes.

The ACCC believes this would be unlikely, due to Synergy’s equipment being more suited for customers with lower volumes.

However, the organisation said alternative suppliers will remain for those customers, in the event it does occur.

ACCC Commissioner Stephen Ridgeway said the companies are not close competitors and the acquisition was unlikely to lessen competition.

“Synergy offers short product runs to small and medium business customers, and Pact primarily services larger customers with high volume orders,” he said.
