Metal Hawk (MHK) has unveiled “significant” gold grades from the first diamond drill holes completed at its Commodore prospect in Western Australia.

The prospect is part of the company’s Berehaven project, which is located near Kalgoorlie in the goldfields region of WA.

The company took on this round of diamond drilling to follow up on a high-grade gold zone discovered earlier this year in the footwall of the nickel sulphide system at the prospect.

Nine holes were completed in this latest campaign, including diamond tails on three previously drilled reverse circulation (RC) holes.

Results from the first five drill holes have returned up to 38.5 grams of gold per tonne (g/t gold) across 0.37 metres from 257.5 metres in one drill hole, as part of a wider 2.5-metre zone grading 7.4 g/t gold from 255.4 metres.

Drilling also intersected nickel, with the pick of the results being 2.6 metres grading 2.8 per cent nickel from 212.5 metres downhole.

The company’s Managing Director, Will Belbin, labelled the system at Commodore “exciting”.

“We have successfully completed the first campaign of diamond drilling designed to evaluate the high-grade gold zone at Commodore and have recorded significant gold results in all diamond holes assayed so far,” he said.

“We look forward to receipt of remaining assays over the next four to six weeks.”

While the company awaits the outstanding assay results, exploration continues at the Berehaven project.

Since April, MHK has completed 3902 metres of RC drilling across Berehaven, which has mostly focused on testing the strike-extensive ultramafic target unit at Commodore.

The company said the interpretation of results from some of these RC holes suggested the dip extent of the gold mineralisation was flatter than expected. The company believes the RC holes may not have been drilled deep enough.

As such, further drilling is planned once final assays are received.

Metal Hawk shares last traded at 23 cents on May 27.
