Nickel sulphide explorer Nordic Nickel (NNL) has released a maiden mineral resource estimate (MRE) for the Hotinvaara Prospect at its Pulju Nickel Project in Finland.

The total MRE reads 133.6 million tonnes at 0.21 per cent nickel and 0.01 per cent cobalt for 278,530 tonnes of contained nickel and 12,650 tonnes of cobalt.

The indicated resource stands at 20.9 million tonnes at 0.22 per cent nickel for 46,540 tonnes of contained nickel while the inferred resource stands at 112.7 million tonnes at 0.21 per cent nickel for 231,990 tonnes of contained nickel.

Additionally, an exploration target of 275-415 million tonnes at 0.17 to 0.25 per cent nickel and 76 to 114 parts per million cobalt for 459 to 1.03 tonnes contained nickel and 21,000 to 47,000 tonnes of contained cobalt was released.

This target is limited to the Hotinvaara exploration licence area which represents just five square kilometres of the 395 square kilometre project area.

Further, the significant increase highlights the potential for further substantial resource growth.

“Gaining access to the high quality historical drill core at Hotinvaara from Outokumpu has not only confirmed the extensive disseminated nickel sulphide mineralisation and the scale of the Pulju nickel system, it has also highlighted the potential to discover bonanza grade massive sulphides at depth which is the focus of Nordic’s upcoming drilling program,” Managing Director Todd Ross said.

“The MRE for Hotinvaara, together with the previously announced first pass mineralogical test work program, has provided us with strong encouragement that the disseminated mineralisation at Hotinvaara can potentially be economically recovered.”

Nordic Nickel has ended the day 6.67 per cent in the green with shares trading at 24 cents.
