Frontier Energy (FHE) has agreed on a preferred pathway with the Water Corporation to deliver water to its Bristol Springs renewable energy project in Western Australia.

The company landed on the existing Stirling Truck Main pipeline as its ideal water pathway, located about 3.5 kilometres from the project.

The proposed capacity is 1250 kilolitres per day, with water costs forecast to be in line with the pre-feasibility study costs.

Water access is a key element to enable green hydrogen production, with nine litres of water required for every one kilogram of hydrogen produced.

The company has three other alternative water sources, including a desalination facility.

However, Executive Chairman Grant Davey said accessing suitable water means the company does not need to develop a desalination facility.

“This not only saves the project millions in capital development costs, but also reduces the time to first production as additional approvals and environmental studies are not required,” he said.

Shares were trading 2.56 per cent lower at 38 cents each at 2:05 pm AEST.
