Immutep (IMM) has been granted two new patents by the Japanese Patent Office and South Korean Patent Office for its immunotherapy treatment for cancer.

The biotech company received the new patents entitled “Combined Preparations for the Treatment of Cancer” from the respective offices, filed as divisional applications.

The new patent follows the grant of the Japanese parent patent and corresponding patents in the United States, Europe, China and Australia.

The claims of the new patent protect Immutep’s intellectual property relating to combined therapeutic preparations comprising its lead active immunotherapy candidate, eftilagimod alpha (efti).

The claims are also directed to related methods of use in the treatment of cancer and infection.

“We continue to invest in building a moat around efti, which is a very unique biomolecule,” CEO Marc Voight said.

“These new patents are notable because this family of patents protects a component of
the triple combination therapy being evaluated in our INSIGHT-003 clinical trial.

“Close alignment of our intellectual property, R&D and business development strategies continues to be a priority for the business as we push towards late-stage development and commercialisation of efti in multiple settings.”

The combination type patent claims are written in multiple formats to maximise the scope of protection and the expiry date of both patents is December 19, 2034.

Shares in Immutep were down 3.13 per cent and trading at 31 cents at market close.
