The ASX200 is set to open virtually flat – or 0.03% higher – on Tuesday, reflecting a trend of cautious optimism on Wall Street overnight.
The S&P 500 rose around 0.1% and the Dow Jones increased by 0.3% on Monday – meaning that both indexes registered rises for the fifth consecutive session, while the Nasdaq 100 was slightly down by 0.1%, experiencing heavy losses early in the session before a late-session recovery with support from Big Tech.
In Australia, investors also have some major events to focus on, including the Federal Election this coming weekend, and the release of CPI data on Wednesday which is expected to show core inflation returning to the levels preferred by the Reserve Bank.
On the ASX, DY6 Metals Ltd (ASX:DY6) has discovered indications of high-grade gallium at its Tundulu heavy rare earths (HREE) and critical metals project in Malawi, Great Boulder Resources (ASX:GBR) has extended a shallow high-grade zone at its Eaglehawk prospect in Western Australia, and Westpac (ASX:WBC) has appointed Carolyn McCann as acting chief executive, consumer, alongside the bank’s continuing search for someone to replace outgoing chief executive Jason Yetton.
To commodities – all in US $ here: Iron ore is $98.55 on the Singapore Exchange, gold’s trading at $3332, Brent crude is $65.76 & natural gas is $3.32 a gigajoule.
One Aussie dollar is buying 64.3 US cents.
