Black Canyon (ASX:BCA) continues to identify high-grade manganese and iron mineralisation in a second batch of assay results from resource definition drilling at the Wandanya project in WA.

Drilling in the central portion of the three km long base case has continued to report consistent zones of high-grade stratiform manganese and iron mineralisation.

To date resource definition drilling has focussed on the three km long base case footprint, however, resource expansion drilling has extended manganese mineralisation 400m to the south and between 200m and 500m to the north for both manganese and iron respectively.

MD, Brendan Cummins, said cross-strike mineralisation widths have also been increased with expansion drilling to the east.

“I never get tired of looking at high grade manganese and iron intersects from Wandanya and these assay results continue to impress. The continuity and scale of the manganese and iron mineralisation is further confirmed particularly in the central section of the three km long base case target where some of the thickest and highest grades for both manganese and iron have been previously reported from the initial wide-spaced exploration programs.”

Mr Cummins said the infill program has replicated high value zones demonstrating how well this stratiform style of mineralisation holds together.

“Whilst the three km long base case target remains the key focus, but the company has welcome the discovery of additional mineralisation to the south.

“Resource expansion drilling targeted a 400m long outcropping manganese horizon with down dip mineralisation now confirmed with drilling.”

Further to the south, mapping and rock chip results have confirmed outcrops of iron and manganese mineralisation extending over 1.4km, which represents an opportunity to grow the mineralisation footprint.

“Results from the northern resource expansion drilling revealed shallow medium grade iron intersects up to 500m from the northern boundary of the three km long base case target while the manganese horizon was extended a further 200m north and delivered medium grade intersects. “Further north we have mapped and sampled a prominent 2.8km long iron enriched ridge which we are keen to drill test over the next few months.”

The company is planning to commence a WA Government Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS) co-funded detailed gravity survey in mid-July over the Wandanya discovery to test for deeper manganese targets potentially related to hydrothermal manganese mineralisation.

BCA was steady at 36.0¢ with a Mkt cap of $58.37M prior to markets opening.
