AuKing Mining (ASX: AKN) took off on news of promising first assay results from the initial batch of four RC drill holes undertaken at the Tundulu rare earth project in southern Malawi.
MD Paul Williams, said the first three holes have identified wide zones of high-grade REE mineralisation and set the scene for a steady flow of assay results from the rest of the 4,300m RC drilling program.
“These results not only validate (and surpass) historical drilling results but identify the potential for a much larger mineralised footprint at Tundulu than was originally considered.
“It suffices to say that these initial results have already propelled Tundulu onto a pathway for a maiden mineral resource estimate and our focus has already turned towards that activity.”
AKN was up 30.0% to 2.0¢.
Resources & Energy Group (ASX:REZ) was a topic of discussion on the HotCopper forums after it received a cash refund of $428,266 under the Australian Federal Government’s Research and Development Tax Incentive (R&DTI).
The company received the refund from the Australian Taxation Office on 11 September 2026. It relates to eligible R&D expenditure of approximately $984,519 incurred during FY2025.
The claim covers R&D activities associated with the company’s trial vat leach program at the East Menzies gold project. That work included metallurgical test work and process optimisation directed at low-cost gold recovery from East Menzies ore.
The East Menzies Gold Project (EMGP) is REZ’s flagship WA asset, comprising a contiguous package of mining, exploration and prospecting licences exceeding 100 sq km, situated within the Wiluna–Norseman Greenstone Belt.
REZ jumped 37.5% to 1.1¢.
TMK Energy (ASX: TMK) was another company that was up after it achieved a production milestone at the Gurvantes XXXV pilot well project (PWP) as the company prepares for the commencement of its 2026 drilling and re-completion program in Mongolia.
CEO Dougal Ferguson, said a sustained bump in gas production rates at the PWP over the last week has boosted the company’s confidence in the commercial potential of the enormous Gurvantes XXXV Coal Seam Gas (CSG) project.
Key deliverables for the management team for the remainder of this year include delivery of the 2026 Work Program, implementation of the Gas to Power Project at the PWP, and the progression of our significant discovered 2C resources to reserves and ultimately, an exploitation license.
“These are all significant value-adding milestones and important steps for the company as we progress towards an expanded appraisal drilling program in 2027 and broader field development. Continuing to grow and utilise our ever-increasing gas production remains a key objective and forms the foundation for any future development.”
TMK was up 12.0% to 14.0¢.
Looking wider, the S&P/ASX 200 was up just 0.60 points earlier today to 8,741.80. The index has lost 2.99% over the last five days but is virtually unchanged year to date.
Meanwhile, Western Australia is sitting on more than $8 trillion in known mineral and energy resources, according to a new report commissioned by the Chamber of Mineral and Energy WA (CME).
The CME says those resources have the potential to generate more than a trillion dollars in royalties and taxes, support hundreds of thousands of jobs and position the state as an indispensable link in global supply chains for decades to come.
CME CEO Aaron Morey, said the report underscored that the sector that has long powered Australian prosperity still has generations of life ahead of it.
“The Western Australian story is inseparable from its mining story – and we remain closer to the first chapter of that story than the last,” Mr Morey said.
“That is exciting for every Australian. With the right policy settings, we can unlock decades of jobs, decades of royalties, decades of taxes and decades of the world knocking on Western Australia’s door for the minerals and energy every modern economy needs.”
