Altech Batteries (ASX:ATC) has been able to confirm the safety and operational stability of its CERENERGY battery technology through an assessment program that included rigorous testing of individual cells.

The test – conducted by Altech’s JV partner Fraunhofer IKTS – looked at nine different parameters of the batteries’ durability, following the launch of the first CERENERGY ABS60 battery prototype in October 2024.

These included long-term cycling and critical operating temperatures.

A full thermal cycle test as well as studies on overcharge, over-discharge, a c-rate test (plus another at high temperatures), a cell failure test, and a cell circuit test were run.

These showed the CERENERGY battery “performs well under extreme conditions” and shapes as a strong follow-up to last year’s prototype.

“These tests are crucial for evaluating potential risks, mismanagement, or external factors. Expert testing conducted by Fraunhofer IKTS, in accordance with international standards, has validated the robustness of CERENERGY technology, showing no critical behaviour,” group managing director Iggy Tan said.

As part of the latter process, Altech had set aside individual cells to undergo rigorous testing to evaluate their performance under abnormal or stressed conditions, beyond standard operating parameters.

“The cells continued to operate for days or even weeks under extreme conditions that would cause typical lithium-ion cells to fail and require safety interventions,” Mr Tan explained after the results were unveiled today.
