Amazon will increase its minimum wage in the US to more than US$18 (about A$24) an hour.
The company will now pay its employees between US$18 and US$22.50 (approximately A$30) per hour and has agreed to hire a further 125,000 warehouse and transportation workers.
This is in addition to the 40,000 new corporate and technology job openings Amazon announced earlier this month.
In some locations, the world’s largest online retailer has also agreed to bonuses of US$3000 (around A$4101).
This isn’t the first time Amazon has upped its pay. In May, the company boosted the minimum wage to US$17 (about A$23.24) per hour and offered bonuses of US$1000 (A$1367).
The bigger pay cheque is expected to attract workers in an increasingly tight US labor market.
Amazon has seen record sales as Americans turned to online shopping out of necessity and boredom during the coronavirus pandemic.
Now a year and a half after the first case of COVID-19, Americans are still clicking “add to cart.”
