American West Metals (ASX:AW1) has hit fresh thick copper intersections at the Cyclone and Lightning Ridge targets on-site its Storm Project in Canada.

The company reported 30 RC drillholes are now complete with diamond rigs currently burning the diesel on-site to see what lies deeper underneath. A total of 4,450m has been completed thus far.

While copper sulphides were spotted by visual identification – a fairly low-confidence assessment compared to full fledged assay results – copper isn’t exactly easy to miss when you’ve got it, either. Just over half of drillholes were interpreted to contain sulphides, just over 50%.

One drillhole, SR24-014 produced a 30m thick drill intercept visually identified to have copper sulphide mineralisation. Another at 21.3m was produced nearby across three main zones from 38.1m downhole.

All in all, the company now reckons copper mineralisation to extend for a strike length of 150m at Lightning Ridge which the company sees as evidence of the project’s potential – in the background, copper prices are Macquarie’s favourite metal pick for 2024.

“We have received the visual results for sixteen of the recently completed drill holes and every drill hole has hit
visual copper sulphides. This success rate is similar to which was achieved during last year’s drilling program,
demonstrating the excellent consistency of copper mineralisation.

Full fledged assays in the coming weeks will help to pinpoint just what grades the comapny is looking at.
