Arizona Lithium (ASX:AZL) has announced its production of lithium carbonate from Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) materials leftover from a three month trial late last year.

The product, which Arizona described as “battery grade,” was made alongside a second party called Saltworks Technology Inc.

Saltworks took the material to its Vancouver headquarters and there produced lithium carbonate. The company certified the ‘battery grade’ credentials.

This, as Arizona sees it, is good timing – given that the first commercial production well has been drilled on-site the Canadian Prairie project with Arizona reporting “production results exceeding expectations.”

However, production is still at least five months away; likely more given the northern hemisphere winter. The company recently received eco approvals to drill a second well.

That first well, called Pad $#1, has been “conditionally approved” for up to $21.6M in “investment incentive” under regional government programs.

Management described today’s news as evidence of the company’s underlying value proposition.

“Producing battery grade lithium carbonate from our flowsheet is an important step in showing the market the quality of product that we can produce,” Arizona MD Paul Lloyd said.

“Our team remains focused on bringing Pad #1 at the Prairie project into production in 2025.”

AZL last traded at 1.6cps.
