Askari Metals (ASX:AS2) has identified extensive tin and tantalum – both at high grades – through a review of the historical exploration database for its Uis project in Namibia, with assays from historical exploration including 3.17% SnO2 (tin oxide) 5,226ppm Ta2O5 (tantalum pentoxide), and 0.87% Rb2O (rubindium oxide).

The review mostly focused on EPL 8535, which is the southernmost tenement owned by
Askari. It is located around 14 kilometres from a tin mine – also named Uis – which is being operated by Andrada Mining.

The area has been subject to surface mapping and rock chip sampling, in addition to an initial phase of RC (reverse circulation) drilling.

The results from these, plus newly identified pegmatite targets, have never been followed up on, even though they host the same pegmatite geology as the Uis mine.

Director Gino D’Anna declared the project’s location along strike of this mine made it a serious strategic asset. “Historical exploration at Uis has demonstrated significant high grades of mineralisation including tin, tantalum and rubidium, comparable with the results outlined by our neighbour, Andrada Mining.”

Mr D’Anna continued: “Despite sharing the same geology as the nearby Uis Tin Mine, this is the first time the Company has evaluated the potential of the Uis Project to host significant
tin and tantalum mineralisation.

“The Uis Project is truly a polymetallic project offering significant economic upside.”
