AuStar Gold (AUL) has announced that it restarted drilling at the Morning Star Mine in early July.

Morning Star is located 120 kilometres east of Melbourne and lies within the Walhalla to Woods Point goldfield which has produced more than six million ounces of gold.

During the 1950s, it was one of Australia’s largest gold mines, having produced more than 800,000 ounces of gold at an average grade of 26.5g/t in its lifetime.

The aim of this drilling program is to open new work areas in order to increase the mining output and move processing from a week-on week-off basis to a continuous cycle.

Drilling will be undertaken in four phases and will target areas that are located either within the mine or are surrounding it.

Phase one

Phase one will target the Cherry, Age of Progress, and Morgan structures which are located in the upper zone of the mine.

AuStar has already completed two holes at the Age of Progress structure and results are pending.

Phases two, three and four

These three phases will test the lower zones of the mine at the Stacpoole North extension, the Gap Zone, and Whitelaws.

Results from all of these programs will be announced as soon as they become available.

AuStar is up 5.88 per cent on the market and shares are trading for 27 cents each at 2:19 pm AEST.
