Biome Australia (BIO) has received pre-publication results from its Biome Lift trial that took place at La Trobe University in Melbourne.
The trial investigated the effect of Biome Lift in comparison to placebo on 39 patients with subthreshold depression over 12 weeks.
The results demonstrated a reduction in depressive symptoms based on self-reported questionnaires, as well as analysis of faecal, saliva, and blood samples, anthropometric measurements, and dietary intake data.
Biome reported that the findings were a culmination of a strategic research partnership with La Trobe University.
Researchers detailed the significant differences observed between the probiotic, compared to the placebo arm, which included anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in brain cells when using the probiotic.
Biome Lift is sold in pharmacy and healthcare practitioner channels across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
BIO shares last traded at 9.1 cents.
