Black Rock Mining (BKT) has completed a large-scale qualification plant campaign that processed 500 tonnes of bulk graphite.

The campaign was designed to produce concentrate samples as part of completing customer qualification works at specification with POSCO and potential large flake customers in North America, Asia and Europe.

Black Rock has reportedly already shipped a large volume of product to existing and potential offtake partners in hopes of securing financing for its Mahenge Graphite Mine in Tanzania.

Managing Director and CEO John de Vries commented on the completion of the program.

“This is a massive achievement in the context that Black Rock has delivered the largest customer qualification program in the graphite sector globally, that continues to demonstrate to the market that we have a high quality commercial grade product,” he said.

“The positive outcomes from this large-scale qualification plant campaign effectively provide a robust platform for our strong customer base to now base their decisions to confidently partner with Black Rock for the long term.”

The processing plant is located in Shandong province, China, and commenced operations in August. Ore samples were processed from 18 locations across the strike length of the Ulanzi orebody at Mahenge.

According to the company, this strategy was designed to represent the first 10 years of the Mahenge Ulanzi pit and represents the expected feed profile for the first two of four planned modules and the potential 26-year mine life of the Mahenge project.

The Mahenge Graphite Project is one of the largest JORC-compliant flake graphite resources in the world, with 212 million tonnes at 7.8 per cent total graphite carbon (TGC) and a reserve of 70 million tonnes at 8.5 per cent TGC.

Company shares were up 11.1 per cent to trade at 20 cents at 12:13 pm AEDT.
