BrainChip (BRN) has been awarded two new patents from the US Patents and Trademarks Office relating to its neuromorphic artificial intelligence chips.

The tech stock advises both patents were registered on October 26 and cover its proprietary Akida technology and chips.

One of the new patents applies to BrainChip’s ‘Neural processor based accelerator system and method’.

While the second patent covers ‘Intelligent Autonomous Feature Extraction System Using Two Hardware Spiking Neutral Networks with Spike Timing Dependent Plasticity’.

BRN was also issued another US patent last week, to bring the total number of patents to seven, with a further one still pending with the office.

BrainChip CEO Peter van der Made said being issued every patent was a milestone as it helped protect BRN’s intellectual property (IP).

“These new patents, incremental to the patent that was granted last week, and the four patents previously granted to BrainChip, represent a significant milestone in protecting our IP and ‘future proofing’ the development of forthcoming generations of Akida neuromorphic AI products,” he said.

“The Akida technology and chip are now protected with seven patents. We intent to increase our patent portfolio significantly over the next few years as we continue to research and expand the horizon of Artificial Intelligence capabilities.”

Shares in BrainChip are up 1.05 per cent to $0.48 at 11:59 am AEDT.
