Castillo Copper has announced its geology team in Zambia has identified extensive structural targets for copper mineralisation.

The geology team undertook a field trip to the priority Luanshya project in the central “Copperbelt” region to gain greater knowledge of exploration activities, assess infrastructure, and reconcile heritage data with field trip observations.

“The upshot of this inaugural visit is clearly identifying prospective structural targets for copper mineralisation, that are on the north-west to south-east trendlines which are coincident with the Lower Roan Formation,” Managing Director Simon Paull said.

Castillo was pleased to find the infrastructure in the region is supportive of mining activities, especially considering China Nonferrous Mining Corp’s (CNMC) three operating copper mines are six to 10 kilometres from the project.

According to CNMC’s 2018 Annual Report, the three copper mines had Proven and Probable JORC (2012) Reserves at 52.3 megatons at 1.26 per cent copper, and produced approximately 6000 tonnes of copper concentrate.

The aim of the field trip was to confirm observations with known heritage data. Castillo’s team now have sufficient data points to formulate the next phase of exploration.

Exploration will initially involve geophysics and collecting soil/rock chip samples to facilitate deriving targets for inaugural drill testing.
