  • High resolution 2D seismic acquisition has commenced underway
  • Nooitgedacht 2D seismic campaign using modern, low- impact nodal seismic acquisition and weight-drop source technology
  • Acquisition expected to take two weeks to complete
  • Results aimed at refining structural interpretation of the project area

D3 Energy (ASX: D3E) has commenced a high-resolution seismic survey at its Nooitgedacht helium exploration project, within the 100%-owned ER315 permit in the Free State, South Africa.

Building on the success of D3 Energy’s recent drilling program, the company will complete a high-resolution 2D seismic survey across the Nooitgedacht area.

The survey will be undertaken by ClearSeis using modern, low-impact nodal seismic acquisition and weight-drop source technology to acquire high-quality subsurface data while minimising environmental disturbance. The survey is expected to be completed in two weeks.

The seismic program is expected to refine the structural interpretation of the project area, support the integration of recent drilling results of NGT245D and NGT245E, assist with future well targeting and resource development planning, and represents another important milestone in advancing D3 Energy’s strategy to unlock the value of its significant helium and natural gas portfolio.

“The commencement of our seismic programme is yet another important step as we look to build upon our geological model to support conversion of our extensive resource to reserves,” MD and CEO, David Casey, said.

Earlier this month D3 Energy reported that both wells the company had been drilling had reached total depth before operations at Nooitgedacht were temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions, which resulted in the demobilisation of the drilling crew.

The company said it expected operations to remain on budget.

Upon remobilisation, the crew was expected will run and cement production casing in both NGT245 E and NGT245 D, followed by drilling out cement plugs and clean-up of each well bore. Subject to completion of these activities, the company anticipates commencing production testing at NGT245 E in the coming weeks. Testing will include flow testing and gas sample compositional analysis, the results of which will be reported to the market in due course.

The company previously reported gas was observed flowing to surface at NGT245 E while drilling, an encouraging early indication ahead of formal production testing. Both wells are targeting faulting and associated fractures in the Ventersdorp and Witwatersrand formations to assess reservoir deliverability and collect additional data on helium and methane concentrations.

D3E was steady at 33.5¢. Mkt cap $50.61M.
