Tungsten mineralisation exists on-site on its acreage in the U.S. state of Idaho, Pioneer Minerals (ASX:PMM) has said today, with an independent study confirming scheelite – a tungstate mineral – is present at the Australian company’s Springfield Prospect, itself part of the larger North Pine Project.

A lot of noise has been made about antimony in the last 18 months or so, with that metal often tied to the defence thematic that’s only been growing in CY26; so too for tungsten. At this time, Pioneer Minerals is targeting both.

Rock chip samples (“petrographic study”) were found to boast high grades of titanium up to around 3%, as well as gold; at least one sample came back at 7.75g/t gold.

While these chips reflect early-stage works, it’s no doubt a positive indicator for the company’s geotech team, who are looking towards, no doubt, a drilling campaign to further establish an understanding of the underlying geology.

“Tungsten mineralisation occurs across multiple lithological and structural settings, supporting potential for laterally and vertically extensive mineralised zones,” the Australian explorer wrote on Tuesday.

Notably, the company also pointed out it’s not too far from Resolution Minerals’ (ASX:RML) tungsten and antimony processing mill, some 18km away at Johnson Creek, this representing a “potential downstream [opportunity].”

PMM chief executive Michael Beven added further weight to the implications of Tuesday’s results. “Of particular significance is the observation that the dominant host rocks examined are granitic in nature,” Beven explained.

“This supports our evolving geological model that Springfield is not solely a skarn-hosted system, and that the historically mined skarn mineralisation may represent only one component of a much larger, intrusion-related tungsten system.”

PMM last traded at 18cps.
