Bowen Coking Coal has successfully completed a 2019 drilling program at its Isaac River Coking Coal Project.

Six sites were drilled with first results received for holes PPD006PC and PPD002PC. Results for these holes are extremely positive for both the Leichhardt and Vermont Upper 2 seams. Results from the remaining holes will be received in the next few weeks and followed by washability testing results.

“We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of the initial raw coal quality results. It supports our strategy of improving the Isaac River Resource not only in quantity but also in terms of quality,” Managing Director Gerhard Redelinghuys, said.

The Isaac River Coking Coal Project is wholly-owned by Bowen and located to the East of BHP Mitsubishi Alliance’s Daunia Mine in the Bowen Basin, Central Queensland.

The company’s aim was to test the coal quality from the previously untested Vermont Upper seams, as well as testing fresh samples from the Leichhardt seam for coking properties.

Based on results so far, the VU 2 seam and the bottoms section from the LHD seam could potentially produce high-quality coking coal. Raw CSN numbers as high as 7 were observed in some piles. This is one of the key qualities of coking coal.

“I am particularly excited about the higher raw CSN numbers, especially from the previously untested VU2 seam,” Gerhard said.

The raw coal quality results reported for the Vermont Upper 2 seams mean the Resource estimate will be updated and re-issued in accordance with the JORC Code. Further tests on the Vermont Upper 3 seam is already underway.
