  • Government Commissioner Ben-Ford Claude was reported to have asked the judge to name Prime Minister Ariel Henry as a suspect
  • Mr Claude alleged Dr Henry had twice been in communication with a suspect in the killing on the night of the assassination

Haiti’s Government Commissioner Ben-Ford Claude has been fired after asking a judge to name the Prime Minister as a suspect in the President’s assassination.

President Jovenel Moïse was killed at his home on July 7, 2021, just days after he had named 71-year-old neurosurgeon Ariel Henry as the next Prime Minister.

Dozens of suspects have been arrested in connection with the investigation into the assassination of the President. Last week Mr Claude alleged the Prime Minister had twice been in communication with one of the suspects on the night.

On Tuesday, the Government Commissioner was reported to have asked the judge to name the Prime Minister as a suspect.

Later the Prime Minister’s office tweeted that, at the direction of the Prime Minister, Mr Claude had been replaced as Government Commissioner by Justice Frantz Louis.

He was installed in the position by the Minister of the Interior in Port-au-Prince on Tuesday.
