Mobile game developer iCandy Interactive (ICI) has completed an early access trial of its new Claw Stars game.

During the March quarter, iCandy’s studio team gathered feedback from gamers and made adjustments to the product while leveraging from experience with its existing Masketeers game.

The trial showed Claw Stars outperformed Maskesteers with regards to retention rates, which measures the portion of users that return to a mobile game one day and seven days after installation.

These rates, iCandy says, are watched closely in the gaming industry as potential early indicators of a mobile game’s future monetisation.

Notably, Claw Stars’ retention for day one and day seven reached 46 per cent and 18 per cent. Comparatively, Masketeers’ rates for the same days measured 37 per cent and 8 per cent.

Looking forward, iCandy has scheduled a global launch of the game in June this year.

The company is already accepting pre-orders and pre-registration for Claw Stars on the Apple App Store and Google Play store, receiving more than 78,000 pre-orders within the first week.

Other quarterly business

Additionally, the March quarter saw iCandy and its partner Lemon Sky Studios complete an online player-versus-player game prototype for joint venture Sky Candy.

During the period, ICI also acquired 100 per cent of Nexgamer.io for $129 million in cash and shares.

The Singapore-based company is developing a hyper-casual gaming engine with the ability to automatically match gamers against one another for competitive gaming with a fun, community focus.

ICI sold its iCandy Digital subsidiary to RightBridge Ventures for a consideration of SEK$31.1 million (A$4.8 million) in shares.

Finances

iCandy has reported a cash receipt from operations during its March quarter of around $441,000, up 227 per cent compared to $194,000 recorded in the corresponding quarter last year.

The developer mostly attributes the growth in cash receipt to the successful launch of its popular Masketeers game.

iCandy Interactive shares have dipped 6 per cent to trade at 9.4 cents at 11:35 am AEST.
