Mining company Lucara Diamond Corp and manufacture HB Antwerp unveiled a 1175- carat diamond in New York City.

The companies are labelling the stone as the largest rough diamond to be shown in the US and the third largest ever to be discovered — however, this has not been officially verified.

The diamond was revealed at the Whitby Hotel in upper midtown Manhattan.

Lucara found the uncut stone at its Karowe Mine in Botswana.

In 2020, Lucara and HB Antwerp teamed up with fashion company Louis Vuitton to show the Sewelo diamond — also from Karowe.

Notably, the diamond miner started using x-ray technology in 2015 to help locate diamonds at the mine.

HB Antwerp told Reuters that it is unsure whether the diamond will be cut into polished stones.

“We’ve been in the business for many years, for quite some time, and these types of things do get us excited because of the sheer size,” HB Antwerp CEO Oded Mansori told Reuters.
