Lucapa Diamond Company (LOM) and its partners have recovered a diamond of more than 100 carats from its Lulo alluvial gold mine in Angola.

Lucapa, a diamond producer, has high-value mines in Angola and Lesotho and last month recovered three diamonds of more than 100 carats from Lulo.

The company and partners, Empresa Nacional de Diamantes E.P and Rosas & Petalas, recovered the latest 144-carat Type IIa D-colour diamond from Mining Block 8.

The stone is the sixth diamond of more than 100 carats recovered from the mine this year and the 23rd since exploration and mining at Lulo began.

Lucapa Managing Director Stephen Wetherall commented on the stone’s recovery by Lucapa’s 40 per cent owner and operator Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo (SML).

“Including the first 100 plus carat recovery from MB46 as 2020 ended, SML has now recovered seven 100 plus carat diamonds in a little over three months,” he said.

“With these 100 plus carat recoveries and the two special pink diamonds in inventory, SML is well positioned to achieve record diamond revenues for the first half of 2021.”

Lulo is one of the highest average U.S. dollar per carat alluvial diamond mines in the world, previously producing a 404-carat D-colour Type IIa stone.

Lucapa Diamond Company shares are down 1.56 per cent, trading at 6.3 cents at 10:57 am AEDT.
