The Australian sharemarket has enjoyed a strong start to the last trading week of CY25, with the bourse heading into Monday’s close +0.85% higher on commodity gains (and maybe even just a little Christmas cheer).

Materials, +2.3% stronger, and Energy, up +1.5%, were the biggest winning sectors, while IT was the one area on the ASX to dump (around -0.1% lower).
It’s not too bad for helping the December holiday joy, considering the Australian market ended up the strongest it’s been since mid-month; largely on low volumes, though, likely as traders get away from home for Christmas Day.
Pressies came early for some stocks, too: Uranium stocks like Paladin Energy (ASX:PDN) and Nexgen Energy (ASX:NXG) each up as much as +8% through today.
The biggest standout gainer, though, was Oz explorer Viridis Mining and Minerals (ASX:VMM), which boomed +45.7% on news that it had landed environmental approval for its Colossus Rare Earths Project in Brazil.
Heading the other way, Flagship Minerals (ASX:FLG) gave back -13%, while Beetaloo Energy (ASX:BTL) gave back -7.4%. And, Compumedics (ASX:CMP), which has gained through December, dropped around -5%.
