Autonomous drone solutions provider Nightingale (NGL) has expanded its existing services contract with the San Pablo Police Department in California.

The San Pablo force has purchased two more of Nightingale’s Blackbird Robotic Aerial Security (RAS) systems, bringing the total to five units.

This purchase reflects a total of $460,000 in revenue for the company, including maintenance, repair, and “upgrade service revenue.” Payments are due in FY24.

San Pablo force also indicated its aim to further expand the commercial relationship with Australia’s Nightingale in the future.

To this end, the company has also stated its strategic intention to boost engagement with other police units in the US, with events to be hosted at Nightingale’s US facility.

The company has recently received approval from the American aerospace regulator for its Blackbird drones. There are approximately 15,000 police departments in the US, according to Nightingale, which provides the company with a considerable number of leads.

The company notes that it is capitalising on a developing industry trend known as “drone in a box,” with a device ready to act as a remote first responder.

Nightingale emphasises that gunshot incidents, 911 calls, and other emergencies are high-priority scenarios for the drones to visually observe in advance of the arrival of officers.

“This approval is a testament to the reliability and effectiveness of our AI-powered Blackbird RAS systems,” Nightingale CEO Jack Wu said.

“This approval … will boost the confidence of other potential customers to consider drone solutions for security and other applications.”

NGL shares last traded at 4.6 cents.
