Demonstrations in Italy continued over the weekend, with protesters taking to the street of Turin against the implementation of a ‘green pass’.
Italy’s ‘Green Pass’
On Thursday, the government announced it would be mandatory for all workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with inoculation to be designated by a green pass.
As of October 15, workers will have to show proof of vaccination, a recent negative test or recent recovery, or be suspended without pay.
Following the government’s approval of the measures, vaccination bookings as much as tripled in Tuscany.
A mosaic approach
Italy is not the only country to implement a form of vaccine passport among the mosaic of approaches taken by European countries to combat the pandemic as the continent approaches winter.
In France, the government has expanded its ‘health pass’ which must be shown to enter cafes, gyms and museums, or board a plane.
On Thursday, the country also suspended 3000 health workers who had flaunted compulsory vaccination rules for people in the profession.
On the other hand, England has backflipped on its plans to introduce a vaccine passport and removed COVID-19 related public health restrictions.
