R3d Resources (R3D) has brought Associated Exploration Drillers on board to undertake exploration drilling efforts at the Tartana open pit in Queensland.

The drilling campaign is designed to test priority copper targets identified by R3D via large induced polarisation anomalies lying to the east and north of the Tartana open pit.

The ASX-lister’s flagship project is located approximately 150 kilometres west of Cairns and 40 kilometres northwest of Chillagoe in North Queensland.

R3d plans to commence an initial 1500 metre drill program over the coming weekend once site mobilisation has been completed later this week.

R3d had previously indicated Western Division Drilling would be undertaking drilling at the sites however the company has been unable to travel from New South Wales to Queensland after failing to obtain necessary COVID-19 travel exemptions.

The company said the agreement with Western Division would remain in place and would seek to remobilise once travel restrictions eased.

“Drilling represents an exciting step in the exploration of the Tartana porphyry copper target below the existing open pit,” the statement from R3d read.

“Western Division Drilling remains committed to the Company’s exploration drilling campaign during 2022 and will seek to mobilise to site when Queensland border restrictions relax.”

R3d Resources shares were up 7.14 per cent to trade at 15 cents at 2:10 pm AEST.
