Rincon Resources (ASX: RCR) has confirmed high levels of copper mineralisation across multiple zones at its West Arunta project in Western Australia, based on maiden diamond drilling at one prospect.

Rincon undertook drilling at the Pokali Prospect to test a deep target whose geology was believed to hold IOCG (iron oxide copper-gold) mineralisation, in addition to potential rare earth element (REE) mineralisation.

What they picked up was multiple zones of veining and alteration hosting disseminated and blebby pyrite as well as chalcopyrite sulphide mineralisation, this occurring through a downhole length of 400 metres from 133m to 551m.

Moreover, several metres of mineralised zones were also spotted, up to 70m downhole length.

Rincon undertook further assessment of the drilled hole, analysing sulphide zones using a field portable x-ray florescence unit: this confirmed a high level of copper mineralisation across three zones, including 7.21 percent and 3.43 percent copper from 133 to 140 metres, 1.30 percent copper from 225.3m and 3.75 percent copper from 259.3m in Zone 1 alone.

Rincon managing director, Gary Harvey said the work had boosted confidence in the company’s expectations for the area.

“Whilst these results are only indicative; it is nonetheless very pleasing to have our first diamond hole successfully intercept several zones containing elevated copper mineralisation between 133m and 551m, validating our models and demonstrating the potential for multiple enriched copper lodes,” he said.

“Based on current information, it is plausible to interpret Pokali North and Pokali East may link up along the northern side of the system; that’s potentially over 4km of mineralised strike with multiple copper enriched zones.

“We now look forward to commencing the second diamond hole at Pokali East as well as the RC drilling program once we get back on the ground.”

Previous exploration in the area around this prospect had also been promising, with drilling and rock-chip sampling indicating anomalous copper mineralisation and high levels of REE mineralisation. This included 18m at 0.52 percent copper, and 46m at 0.37 percent at two drill holes, as well as 0.48 percent and 0.43 percent TREE (total rare earth elements) from two rockchip samples.

Rincon is trading at 3c.
