Salt Lake Potash (SO4) says its Lake Way project in Wiluna, Western Australia, is nearing completion.

According to an update from the company, the process plant was at 88 per cent completion on the last day of 2020, with overall project completion sitting at 81 per cent.

The $246 million project aims to create a production facility for developing the environmentally friendly mineral plant fertiliser salt of potash (SOP), which Australia usually imports from overseas.

Most major items have been installed, including salt of potash and schoenite crystallisers, centrifuges and attritioners, drag feeders and conveyors. Piping, cabling and valves remain to be installed at the project.

SO4 says it is waiting on flooring grid mesh, a cage crusher and some valves and pumps, which have been held up in the shipping process due to COVID. However, the company says shipping will not impact commissioning at this stage.

SO4 expects process plant commissioning to commence in February, with the introduction of first feed salts to the plant occurring in March.

Salt Lake Potash’s Chief Executive Officer Tony Swiericzuk, says he is proud of the progress at the project.

“Significant progress was made in a challenging environment in 2020 with minimal impact on the project and we now look forward to supplying the domestic and global agricultural industries with premium SOP in the second quarter of 2021,” he commented.

In concurrent news, the company announced Lake Way SOP received approval for use in organic farming in the U.K.

Salt Lake Potash shares closed on a high today, up 15.4 per and trading at 45 cents each.
